RSAT Tools

So our lovely and good friends at Microsoft have decreed that if you want to use their RSAT tools in Windows 10, you need to install it as a feature.

You need to install this “feature” every time you upgrade Windows. Can I get a “thank you, Microsoft?”

Luckily a lovely gent named Martin Bengtsson has made a Powershell tool that updates RSAT regardless of what version of Windows 10 you own.

The installer is here.

His Blog is here, and includes instructions for building your own ConfigMgr application.

The only catch is that if you use WSUS, you will need to enable this feature with group policy. If you can’t do that, you can stop the WUAUSERV service, change the following registry key:  HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU\UserWUServer to 0, and then restart wuauserv. That will let you install the RSAT features from within Windows. You then need to set the reg key back to 1.
